We distinguish between direct emissions, purchased energy and the wider value chain: scopes 1, 2 and 3. We make the selected scope, assumptions and data quality explicit, so you know what the figures do and do not tell you.

What are scopes 1, 2 and 3?
Scope 1: direct emissions from sources you own or control. Scope 2: emissions from generating purchased electricity, heat, steam and cooling that you consume. Scope 3: other indirect value-chain emissions, such as purchasing, transport and the use of sold products.
Which data do we need?
Examples include energy and fuel use, purchases, transport and business travel. We first define the organisational boundary, reporting year and emission sources included in the inventory.
What if data are missing?
We document gaps, estimates and assumptions. This makes clear what the result covers, what it does not and where better data are needed.
What does a carbon footprint deliver?
An emissions inventory with a defined scope and an overview of significant emission sources. It provides a starting point for reduction actions; calculation alone does not reduce emissions.
